Come arrivare

The day
A day pass at Bike Glendhu, ten minutes from Wānaka: trails from grade 2 to 6 above the lake, about NZD 38 each.
The day
A slow morning, then Roys Peak in the late afternoon: a steep climb, a quieter summit than at sunrise and golden light over the lake.
The day
Over the Lindis Pass to Aoraki/Mount Cook village and two nights at the Aoraki Court Motel, rated 9.2 on Booking.com.
The day
The Hooker Valley Track from the village at six: 10 km return over swing bridges to the lake under Aoraki, before the day visitors arrive.
The day
A short drive to Lakestone Lodge on the shore of Lake Pukaki, adults only, two nights with breakfast and dinner, the mountain across the water.
The night
The summit tour at the Mount John observatory in the dark-sky reserve, about NZD 219 each.
The day
About four hours to Akaroa on Banks Peninsula and two nights at Oinako Lodge, a six-room lodge by the harbour.
The day
A small-boat swim with Hector's dolphins, among the smallest dolphins in the world, about NZD 250 each; if none appear, you go again for free.
Getting home
About an hour and a half to Christchurch airport.
